Taal Vista Hotel’s Year – Long 80th Anniversary Celebration – Here, For Always

Taal Vista Hotel, together with the Manila Hotel, are the grand dames of the Philippine tourism industry and are considered the pioneering hotels in the Philippines.

Taal Vista Hotel’s story began in 1936 when then newly-elected Commonwealth president Manuel L. Quezon expressed his desire to develop Tagaytay as a tourism destination due to its cool climate plus the awe-inspiring view of Taal Volcano in the middle of Taal Lake made a winning combination to draw tourists. Three years later, on October 7, 1939, the Taal Vista Lodge opened its doors to the public as the prime lodging and recreational establishment in Tagaytay.

This year, Taal Vista Hotel is celebrating its 80th anniversary dubbed as Here, For Always. Its long history is as colorful as that of Tagaytay, shaped by the geography of the place and the political history of the region.

Since then, the ownership of Taal Vista Lodge changed hands from government to the Resorts Hotel Corporation, to the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP.). The hotel holds a special place in the heart of the late Henry Sy Sr., who used to visit Taal Vista Lodge and just sit on the ridge overlooking the lake. So in 1998 when DBP put the hotel on the block, Sy made a substantial offer and acquired it through SM Investments Corp. (SMIC).

In 1999 to meet the growing need for hotel rooms in Tagaytay, Taal Vista Lodge undergone an extensive upgrade and expansion and reopened on March 27, 2003 as Taal Vista Hotel with a new wing to accommodate more conference facilities and amenities for business and leisure activities.

Today, the 80-year-old grand dame of Tagaytay features freshly renovated Ridge Rooms, Mountain Wing guestrooms, Instagramable attractions, family friendly activities and promotions that appeals to all genres from Baby Boomers to Generation Z. “Taal Vista Hotel remains as the premier place to stay in Tagaytay due to the unraveled views of the lake, location of the hotel and the beautiful grounds and surrounds,” says Richard Gamlin, Taal Vista Hotel’s general manager.

“We have so much to offer to kids and the young at heart. With an excellent mix of room types and views, including our newly renovated guestrooms, facilities and quality of service. We have two excellent restaurants offering the best in Filipino foods is our all-day dinning Veranda restaurant plus Taza Fresh Table which offers great seasonal, locally sourced and organic dishes,” he added.

“We are also very much aware of how much Taal Vista Hotel has become a part of Filipino families tradition that is why, as part of our 80th anniversary Here, For Always celebration, we are preparing to host several events and promotions throughout the year such our free admission wedding fair this coming May 25 to showcase our top wedding suppliers offering exclusive one-day only discounts and add on, art fair featuring uprising and well-known local artists, music festival with some outstanding local talents and outdoor film showing top charting classic films from 1930s to modern times at the Ridge.
