Taal Vista Hotel: Where History Meets Sustainability
Nestled in the breathtaking landscapes of Tagaytay, Taal Vista Hotel stands as a haven of relaxation, offering captivating views of the magnificent Taal Volcano. This iconic establishment evokes nostalgia with decades of colorful memories, providing a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Guests are treated to cozy rooms and excellent service, enjoying time with family and friends amidst the unparalleled beauty of Tagaytay. The hotel provides the safety and comfort of a home away from home, complemented by its proud heritage as a cornerstone of Philippine tourism.
Formerly known as Taal Vista Lodge, the hotel was the brainchild of Philippine Commonwealth President Manuel L. Quezon, who initiated the development of Tagaytay as a tourism destination. On October 7, 1939, Taal Vista Lodge was inaugurated, quickly becoming a popular lodging and dining destination for both local and foreign tourists. Taal Vista Hotel now stands as the second oldest hotel in the Philippines, next to Manila Hotel.
With over eighty years dedicated to exceptional guest experiences, the hotel is also a champion of sustainability. It actively participates in efforts to contribute to a greener environment through the implementation of the Seven Green Goals: Consumption, Diversion, Energy, Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG), Sustainable Tourism, Water, Diversity, and Equal Opportunity. These goals are integrated throughout the hotel’s operations, including Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE).
One notable initiative is The Giving Garden Program, where most of the food waste is composted and used in the organic herb and vegetable garden. The hotel has also launched TelaTales in partnership with Zarah Juan and Bahay Kalingap, aiming to repurpose preloved clothes and discarded hotel linen. Veranda Restaurant is National Ecolabelling Programme – Green Choice Philippines (NELP-GCP) certified, with 33% of its à la carte menu locally sourced.
This year, the hotel has introduced a pioneering eco-friendly solution with the ORCA food waste disposal system. In collaboration with Dunbrae Philippines, Inc., the official distributor of ORCA Rapid Composter, the hotel utilizes a groundbreaking microbial process to convert food waste into a safe liquid, which is then seamlessly discharged into the sewer system. This system not only offers environmental benefits but also enhances cost-efficiency by turning waste into valuable resources like water and energy.
The “Plate for the Planet” initiative has also been launched, where each Plate for the Planet set menu enjoyed results in the planting of a seedling, supporting sustainability with every bite. Priced at Php 1,600 nett, the set menu includes:
Arancini for Amuse: Crispy rice ball with a trio of Tagaytay mushrooms and kesong puti from Laguna, served with malunggay pesto
Maliputo as Main: Poached freshwater trevally fillet with haricot verts, carrots, and leeks on roasted squash and potato puree, served with Normandy sauce
Pavlova for Dessert: Meringue with calamansi custard, Chantilly, and pineapple calamansi compote
Blue Pandan Tea Mocktail: Made with Tsaa Laya’s vibrant blends, crafted from the finest Philippine ingredients
